Latin America projected to have fastest bandwidth growth worldwide

Positive economic news from Latin America (LATAM) about its Q2 gross domestic product growth increasing 1.1% annually – its best results in over three years – confirms the region’s economic recovery is gaining traction.

This could be one of many reasons that the Global Interconnection Index, a recent market study published by Equinix, predicts LATAM could be the fastest-growing region worldwide in terms of Interconnection, potentially increasing 62% annually between 2016 – 2020.

China Telecom confirms interest in Brazil's Oi

  China Telecommunications Corp, the country's third largest telecom carrier by mobile subscribers, said on Wednesday that Brazilian telecom company Oi SA was among the several potential targets it had considered for investment

Oi, which provides phone services in hundreds of Brazilian cities, filed for bankruptcy earlier this year. Also known as the largest filing of this kind in the country's history, the carrier has been struggling with a debt of $19 billion.

China Development Bank is one of Oi's creditors with $1.2 billion stake

Brazil Internet of Things (IoT) national action plan

The plan is aimed at positioning the country in the forefront of technology development within the next five years.
 

The document, which will subsidize the preparation of the IoT National Plan  was released this Tuesday, 3rd , in the Brazil Auditorium of FutureCom, in São Paulo

The study includes more than 70 initiatives for innovation, human capital, regulatory environment, and connectivity

Emphasis will be made on health, smart cities, industrial, and rural areas

Brazil launches privatization plan

Brazil: President Michel Temer's government launched a multibillion-dollar plan to auction off oil, power rights and infrastructure concessions, in an attempt by the new government to bolster private investment in a moribund economy.

The government will sell operating licenses for airports in the cities of Porto Alegre, Salvador, Florianopolis and Fortaleza by the first quarter of 2017. It also plans to sell rights to operate federal roads in the center-west and south regions later next year.
