Renting residential property in Brazil

It can be quite difficult to rent a property in Brazil as a foreigner. This is due to the usual requirement of a guarantor or “fiador” as it is known in Brazil. Normally, a guarantor is required to own a property outright in the same state as which you wish to rent of equal or higher value. Many Brazilians will be unwilling to guarantee a rental property for foreigners as they may lose their own property if the tenant fails to pay the rent as stipulated in the rent agreement.
