Rio de Janeiro is planning to ask the central government for permission to issue “Olympic bonds” to finance the preparations for the sporting event in 2016 .Eduardo Paes, the mayor of Rio, plans to ask Brazil’s new president Dilma Rousseff next month for permission to launch an initial $500m in bonds, if approved, this will be Brazil’s first municipal issuance in more than a decade.

On a packed Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, IOC President Jacques Rogge, IOC Coordination Commission Chairwoman for 2016 Nawal El Moutawakel, and Rio 2016 President Carlos Nuzman unveiled the new logo of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The emblem, which was unveiled just before the turn of the New Year, marks the beginning of a new stage in Rio’s journey to hosting the first Olympic Games in South America. Composed of multi-colored figures holding hands above the words Rio 2016, and the Olympic rings, the new look will become one of the world’s most recognized brands over the next five and a half years.
